"Hookah group gets sponsor, makes plans BY AMANDA JOERING | AJOERING@COMMUNITYPRESS.COM Owning a hookah bar may be in the future for Highland Heights resident Mark Milner.
Milner is a founder of the Northern Kentucky Hookah Smoking Group, which began meeting every Wednesday in March to use a hookah, a water pipe used to smoke flavored tobacco.
They've had a difficult time trying to find a place to smoke the hookah, which was banned from some local restaurants.
Now, the group and their hookah have found a home at Duck Creek Country Club in Silver Grove.
'It's been great here,' Milner said. 'These guys told us we were welcome here and have had open arms ever since.'
Milner said the group was recently sponsored by Hookah Life, a online retailer of hookahs and hookah related products.
Hookah Life co-owner Mike Beck said supporting hookah smokers is important to the company because they are often misunderstood.
'This is not just a reason to smoke,' Beck said. 'The groups we sponsor understand the greater meaning of hookah.'
Milner said having Hookah Life's sponsorship is important to the group as well.
'I think adding group sponsorship moves us to another level and shows people that we really aren't doing anything wrong,' Milner said.
Milner, who recently married, said he plans on looking into expanding the group.
'I'd love to add more people and another hookah to the group," Milner said. "My overall game plan is to have my own hookah bar someday.'"
