At the Hookah-life.com office we have had the opportunity to sample almost every hookah charcoal available to hookah smokers. To say the least, we are qualified in judging the overall quality of a charcoal for its intended purpose so a few months ago we decided to test the much hyped Coco Nara Coconut Coals.

Lets begin with presentation. The box itself is simple, once opened you are presented with 86 hookah charcoal cubes. Being natural hookah coals you would expect Coco Nara to take a long time to light and red or ash over completely. Surprisingly, it takes but a minute or two on an electric burner (probably less with a butane lighter or torch) to get hot enough for smoking.

As advertised, they release almost no-smoke and have no effect on the flavor of the shisha which is a big plus, considering some other natural coals may slightly alter the shisha flavor. As far as natural hookah coals are concerned, these are at the top of the standard. Definitely better than most wood hookah coals and better in every respect than quick light hookah charcoals, except for the time it takes to get up to proper temperature.
For those hookah smoking hippies out there, you will be happy to know that Coco Nara hookah coals are as green as it gets. Completely renewable, bio-degradable and manufactured from fallen, used coconuts without harming a single tree branch.

Overall Rating: 10/10 - They are perfect. Yes they light slightly slower than quick lights, but that is expected in a natural hookah coal with no added chemicals.
